Dallas Chamber Symphony Announces Third Annual Sight of Sound Film Contest. Entry Deadline is March 10th, 2016.
International event challenges filmmakers to create short, silent films set to classical music. Finalists receive live orchestral concert film screening, awards and cash prizes. www.SightOfSound.org
The Dallas Chamber Symphony invites filmmakers from around the world to participate in its Third Annual Sight of Sound Film Contest by creating new, short, silent films that are set to and inspired by a piece of classical music (much like Disney’s Fantasia, yet inclusive of live-action films). The event is sponsored in part by the Video Association of Dallas.
The deadline for original entries is March 10, 2016.
Competitive entries are reviewed and selected by a jury of filmmakers, and all finalists receive a concert screening of their films on April 19th at Dallas City Performance Hall with the orchestra performing the soundtrack live-to-film on stage. Finalists are also eligible to receive a $500 Audience Choice Award (selected by audience members via text), as well as a $500 Best Picture Award to be determined by the competition’s Jury. After the debut concert, Semifinalists and Finalists are given complimentary license to use and distribute the Orchestra’s professional concert recording, dubbed to their films, across all motion media, worldwide in perpetuity.
To participate, filmmakers may either submit a film for accompaniment with one of the competition’s pre-sanctioned Music Selections, or enter a Wild Card Submission that is set to a piece of their choosing. Films can be narrative, abstract, animation, live action, etc., as a diverse variety of formats and interpretations are welcome. The most successful entries tend to be those films that are three to ten minutes in duration and exhibit a strong interplay between sound and picture. Filmmakers should consult the competition Rules and Guidelines found at www.SightOfSound.org prior to submitting a film. Sample films, including last year’s official selection, can also be viewed online.
The Sight of Sound concert screening will be held on Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 at Dallas City Performance Hall (2520 Flora Street, Dallas, Texas 75201) at 8:00 p.m. Individual tickets are available for $19-$49 each, $15 for students. Seniors receive a 25% discount. Season subscriptions are also available. To purchase tickets, or for more information, visit www.DCSymphony.org, or call (214) 449-1294.
